Notes:
Johnny Rawls has been singing for 33 years, traveling all over
the world as much as 300 days per year, packing in the crowds to
hear his contemporary mixture of blues and soul. He has played with
such legends as O. V. Wright, Little Johnny Taylor and Z. Z. Hill,
recording, writing and producing with artists Phil Guy, Lonnie Shields
and Johnny Marshall to say just a few.
After appearing on 20 albums in one capacity or more as producer,
guitar, background vocals, arranger, horn arranger, songwriter,
rhythm guitar, organ, lead guitar and vocals; plus having a succession
of four of his own hit albums, “Here We Go”, “Louisiana
Woman”, “My Turn to Win” and “Put Your Trust
in Me”, and after producing his daughter Destiny’s first
album, it only seems natural that this Mississippi Soul Blues Man’s
next step would be to start his own record label, appropriately
named DEEP SOUTH SOUND.
Johnny says “he’s been saving the best” for “Lucky
Man”, his first album released under his new label. Johnny
sings and plays the lead guitar along with the accompaniment of
his loyal band members who travel along with him all over the United
States.
Background vocals in “Picture Frame” and “Call
Me” are sung by his daughters Destiny and Deanka Rawls. Michael
Drake plays the trumpet and plays a solo in” Need Some Lovin’”.
The saxophone player, Jeremy Scott plays a solo on “Lucky
Man”. The last song on the album, Johnny sings and plays the
guitar by himself. You can’t help but imagine seeing this
veteran blues man heading down a road in Mississippi “Going
Home”.
