Club Notes

    Compiled by Martin Renzhofer

True Blues: Johnny Rawls could have settled for a career as a backup man. He did travel plenty of highway backing artists such as Z.Z. Hill, Lynn White and Johnny Taylor.
He was O.V. Wright's bandleader from 1974 to 1980 and Wright's death. But Rawls has blossomed into a top blues and soul talent. In 1995, his "Can't Sleep at Night" was runner up for the Living Blues' New Soul/Blues Recording of the Year.
Rawls performs Monday at the Dead Goat Saloon, 165 S. West Temple, Salt Lake City. Showtime is 9 p.m.
In 1996, Rawls released "Here We Go."
